Wellington's Engineers

This book is the result of several years research as part of my PhD. It is now being published to bring the benefits of my research to a wider audience.
Wellington's Engineers describes the role of the engineering services that were available to the Duke of Wellington during his campaigns in the Iberian Peninsula. It tries to take a more balanced approach to the contribution of various corps and nationalities.. Engineering Services were provided by the Corps of Royal Engineers, the Royal Military Artificers (later the Royal Sappers and Miners}, the Royal Staff Corps and by staff of the Quarter-Master-General's department.
The role of the Portuguese Engineers has also been overlooked in previous 'Anglo centric' publications. Like the Royal Engineers, their number was small but they played a vital role in the fence of their country. Names like Neves Costa and Laurenco Homem da Cunha D'Eca are virtually unknown outside of Portugal bur their role is better understood by the Portuguese
